Guide: jailbreaking and unlocking version 3.1 or 3.1.2 extremely detailed
This will only work on a mac and does not yet support the iPhone 3GS, the iPod touch 2G or the iPod touch 3G. So that means it does support the iPhone 3G, iPhone 2G and iPod touch 1G.
I will be demonstrating with an iPhone 3G
Before you begin this you will need:
-iTunes 9
-pwnagetool 3.1
-3.1 iPhone software
iPhone 3G
iPhone 2G
-A mac this only works on macs.
Extract pwnagetool in the usual way and then follow these steps:

Pwnagetool 3.1.3 finally released for 3GS
Finally the dev team have released a jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 2G , but iPod touch 3G remains unjailbreakable for now. The latest version of PwnageTool is dubbed as pwnagetool 3.1.3, what happened to 3.1.1 and 3.1.2.But unfortunately if you have already upgraded to 3.1 then there is no way to jailbreak and you can only jailbreak your 3GS if your are already jailbroken on 3.0 or 3.0.1, but this can be easily done with redsn0w. Pwnagetool, luckily, does not upgrade your baseband even on the 3GS so the ultrasn0w unlock can be used on a jailbroken 3GS. PwnageTool does not support the 3GS out of the box.
As I have already stated if your running 3.1 then you can not jailbreak but the dev team do state this:
"If your iPhone 3GS has 3.1 preinstalled and is not Pwned then there is no tested jailbreak solution at the moment."
So we may see this jailbreak in the future.
Good luck pwning. (Here's the guide to using pwnagetool 3.1) WARNING IF YOUR iPHONE 3GS IS NOT JAILBROKEN ON 3.0 OR 3.0.1 THEN DO THAT FIRST WITH REDSN0W

Snapture on the appstore

As the iphone's camera is well less than amazing, even on the 3GS, many developers having been working hard to make apps to assist you in taking a good photo. One of the more popular ones was, if you have a jailbroken iPhone, snapture on the cydia store but now the app is available on the appstore, so now everyone has access to it.
I have used the app and would recommend it to you, it is an absolute steal at just $1.99.
The
developer of snapture, Mr. Gai states this:
"We
truly believe that Snapture will become the default
camera application for our users going
forward".

MMS hack for At&t still possible

In the 3.1 update the MMS and tethering hack did no
longer work, although some people reported that the
hacks were still working for them after the update.
Aaron Krill, the man who discovered the hacks, is
back again but with just the tethering hack. Bellow
are the instructions on how to do it, the hack only
works for At&t.
First make sure you have
iTunes 8.2 or 9, your iPhone is running OS 3.1 and
you have the modified version of the At&t
carrier file “ATT_US.ipcc” download the file
here.
You must enable IPCC
updates on iTunes with these steps:
MAC:
1. Make sure iTunes is closed then open up Terminal
Open Terminal. Applications > Utilities >
Terminal2. Paste everything bellow
into the box:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing
-bool TRUE.
Windows:
1. Make sure iTunes is closed, then go to start>
run> and type in the box CMD
2. Paste everything bellow in to the box, by right
clicking on the box and hit enter.(shortcuts wont
work):
“%Program Files%\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt
carrier-testing 1
Now you must update the carrier file with these
instructions:
-
Open up iTunes and connect your iPhone.
-
Click on your iPhone in iTunes.
-
Windows: hold shift and click Check for Update.
-
MAC: hold alt/option and click Check for Update.
-
Select the ATT_US.ipcc you downloaded earlier.
-
Once everything looks clear reboot your iPhone.
-
MMS should be enabled.
It is not guaranteed that
this will work because At&t is well basically
fiddling about with it right now.
